Winter Park

The original plan was to leave Copper Mountain on Tuesday and head to the Steamboat Springs area to camp. But less than 24 hours in a condo and no one wanted to camp any more. I am the master of finding an inexpensive condo to rent and so I set about my work. We found a place in Winter Park. It's only a studio so I had to ask for the okay to have 6 instead of 4 people, but we were approved. (There are 2 futons and a murphy bed, plenty of room.)  Of course as soon as we got here I started looking for places to run. I was really disappointed. I want to walk out the door and head up a mountain, but that isn't really happening here. Luckily, I am on taper for Audi Power of 4 so it's not such a big deal, but I'm not sure I would stay here again for training.

Norm and I headed up Vasquez Road, which is right outside our condo, but is a road - even though it is listed as trail It turns into dirt road and then we see trails, but it was definitely confusing when trying to look online.

Today we ran mostly on the Vasquez Trail. It wasn't my favorite.

The best part of this condo might be the size of the wine glasses. That's a 1.5 liter wine bottle next to the glass.

Trail head parking right around the corner from the condo is misleading because you still have a ling way to go on sidewalk and then a dirt road before reaching a trail head.

Heading up the road we saw posts like this in the neighborhood.

Running up the dirt road, wondering where the hell we are going.

I guess lost keys are a problem around here.

If I had to jump over any more logs I was going to have a full on toddler tantrum. I am only 5 feet tall, this isn't always so easy.

Okay, it's pretty...

Lots and lots of drowned trees. Often made it hard to find the trail.

There were a lot of these stacks of wood. Norm thought they were scary.

.1 mile from our turn back to town and we encounter this. It's deeper than it looks in this picture.

We thought this log was the answer, but it spikes of wood that could hurt your bootie hole if you fell.

Norm leapt to this stone, but my short little legs doubted our success.

Norm took his shoes off to cross the river.

We saw a lot of campsites, but none quite like this! A room with view!
So, sorry Winter Park, but you aren't high on my list of places to stay for training, but at least unlike Telluride you have a Safeway with normal grocery store prices! If you want to see video of us trying to decide the best way to cross the river, check out my Facebook page.

Less than a week in Colorado and I am feeling depressed. I really don't want to leave.
